Former Asante Kotoko striker Kwadwo Poku ‘Mahala’ has launched a scathing attack on the newly appointed coach of the club Paa Kwesi Fabin accusing him of taking bribes from players.
Pa Kwesi was named the head coach of the club for the second time in his career and the former striker who seem unhappy with the appointment has questioned the credibility of the former U17 head coach.
Kwadwo Mahala, as he is famously known, believes people always manipulate Paa Kwesi Fabin by greasing his palm to have their way through.
The former striker who spoke with apt and concise confidence claims the attitude of taking bribes is what led to the sacking of Fabin at the club in his first marriage.
”I know human beings can change at a time but what I know of Paa Kwesi is that he is not a good coach. He takes bribe and I don’t know if he has changed or not,” Kwadwo Poku told Silver FM in Kumasi.
“I remember during our time with him at Kotoko and even at school (OKESS) that was what he was doing, always receiving bribes. That is the gospel truth concerning what I know of him.”
Recounting an experience with Fabin, Kwadwo Poku narrated an incident in which he perceived the coach to have taken money from former Ghana international Baffour Gyan and choosing him ahead of Alex Asamoah for a game despite the fact that Gyan didn’t train with the side that week.
“During our time at Kotoko, I remember there was a game in which Alex Asamoah knew he would start because he was part of the team’s preparations during that week. Paa Kwesi didn’t use him for that game and rather used Baffour Gyan who came from Accra a day before the game”
“He also benched the other strikers who were expected to make the match-day list to pave way for Gyan. Alex Asamoah questioned him about that and he (Paa Kwesi) told Alex that he’ll put him in a fridge – meaning he is not going to use him for matches anymore.”
“I called the management members at that time and reported Paa Kwesi to them and he was sack the following day.”
The accusation from Kwadwo Poku comes at the back of several attacks hauled at Paa Kwesi Fabin before the FIFA U17 World Cup last year with managers and parents of some of the players alleging that he was taking bribes from their wards.
