Renowned football arbiter and Accra Representative of Berekum Arsenal FC Lawyer Ntow Fianko has revealed a criminal attempt by officials of Accra Great Olympics to bribe him and other club officials in 2012 to moot for an 18-club league when they were on their way to relegation.
The former Division One League Board Chairman who has been flummoxed and flabbergasted by the adamant posture of Olympics in hanging the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League season with a court injunction has disclosed that the Wonder Club do not deserve much attention from Ghanaians since that is their stock in trade.
Olympics after placing an interlocutory injunction on the start of the Ghana Premier League tabled a proposal for an 18-club league which the ExCo of the GFA rejected.
The news has taken many aback following Olympics’ claim of pursuing a genuine cause, yet taking a swift turn to serve their interest by looking for a platform to be part of the league.
Many, who earlier supported the court action of Olympics have soon realized the Wonder Club is only chasing an endless shadow with Lawyer Ntow Fianko saying they tried to bribe their way through the system in 2012.
“6 to 8 years ago, when Great Olympics were relegated to the Division One League, they attempted to bribe Takyi Arhin, J. Y Appiah and myself with 10 million old cedis to vote for an 18-club league so that Olympics will remain in the Premier League but we refused,” Lawyer Fianko is quoted to have told Aseda FM know an interview.
“They told us they have finished with the various RFA Chairmen so it was left with us to accept.
Olympics had filed an application for an interlocutory injunction on the Ghana Premier League with claims that they have not accepted their relegation status despite finishing 14th on the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League table.
The earlier application was dismissed by an Accra High Court but the Agossu side filed another to stop the league again after it was given a second kickoff date.
When they finally met the ExCo of the Ghana FA over their grievances, the Accra side proposed an 18-team league which Lawyer Ntow Fianko finds incredibly amazing.
