Black Stars midfielder Christian Atsu has said Ghana’s defeat to Egypt in the last group game of the Africa Cup of Nations would only motivate the squad to give their all against the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday when both teams meet in the quarterfinals.
“We are happy we qualified. The next game is more important. We will fight to the end. It was extremely difficult with the pitch. We played good, we played well and created enough chances to win the game but that was not to be,” he told Class Sports’ Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang.
“We still have a lot of hope and belief in ourselves. We are disappointed about the loss as we wanted to keep the winning run going, but as fate would have it this is how the game panned out. It is behind us now and the focus is now going to be on the game against the Congolese. I’m confident we will put in a good show against them.”
A win against Congo on Sunday will see the Black Stars qualify for their sixth straight AFCON semi-final.
