Ghana’s women U-20 coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani believes Avram Grant made the right choice in his final 23-man squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations holding in Gabon.
The Israeli surprised many with his selection of 19-year-old Schalke forward Bernard Tekpetey, who has only two senior club appearances to his name.
Also making the squad are two more previously uncapped players, Sweden-based Ebenezer Ofori and Barnsley right-back Andy Yiadom, while the likes of Abdul Majeed Waris, David Accam and Jeffrey Schlupp were left out.
“I think this is the best we have currently,” Dramani told Kasapa FM.
“The coach himself knows he has to do everything possible to succeed, everything to save his name.
“He trained with them and saw them, every player had his qualities.
“You might be looking at one thing if you are an outsider, but the coach might be looking for certain things in a player.”
Ghana, placed in Group D, will begin their Afcon campaign on January 17 against Uganda, before matches against Mali and Egypt on January 21 and 25 respectively.
The set-up is currently involved in pre-tournament camping in the United Arab Emirates.
The Black Stars have won the Afcon four times, with the last coming in 1982.
