With the MLS roster freeze approaching on Sept. 15, D.C. United wanted to make sure they completed one more piece of business to upgrade their roster.
On Friday afternoon, D.C. United announced that they’ve completed the signing of 25-year-old right back Samuel Inkoom. Inkoom is immediately available for selection, and is expected to be brought in as cover for right back Sean Franklin and as cover in right midfield.
“We are pleased to be adding an experienced player in Samuel who will provide us solid depth at the wide midfield and outside back positions,” D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper said in a press release. “We welcome Samuel to the D.C. United family.”
Samuel Inkoom was a member of his national team at each of the last two World Cups, and started against the USA in 2010.
Despite having more than 30 international caps to his name, Inkoom has been a free agent since the summer, when another stint at a European club ended earlier than expected.
Inkoom spent the second half of last season with Platanias in the Greek SuperLeague, making 15 appearances, all starts. He’s also played for Bastia in France, Dnipro of Ukraine, and Switzerland side FC Basel.
