Nigerian international Asisat Oshoala has said she deserves the Women’s Player of the Year award presented to her on Thursday, January 5 at the 2016 Glo-CAF Awards in Abuja, Nigeria.
Oshoala beat Ghana’s Elizabeth Addo, Cameroon’s Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene, South Africa’s Janine Van Wyk, and Cameroon’s Raissa Feudjio Tchuanyo to win the award.
Speaking to the media after the ceremony, the Arsenal Ladies forward said the award was a source of pride to her.
“To be part of the top three in Africa is a pride for me alone and it’s not easy because we have a lot of players in Africa, and so coming up to be in the top three is not easy and I will say I feel happy about it and I think I deserve it,” she stated.
She expressed gratitude to her teammate for making it possible for her to win the award, saying: “Everyone in the group is a winner, every player in my team and my club that made this happen is a winner.”
