Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association Francis Oti Akenten has told Ultimate Sports that performance of the black stars at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations has further entrenched his belief that Ghana will win the continental tournament.
The black Stars have qualified for the quarter finals of the AFCON after beating Uganda and Mali 1-0 respectively, and will play Egypt on Wednesday to decide who finishes top of group E.
Ghana are on a mission to end a thirty five year trophy drought at the Nations Cup and although many Ghanaians are unimpressed with what they describe as the uninspiring performances of the team in their two wins, Coach Oti Akenten says the black stars are going about their business in a very calculated manner which if continued will win them the AFCON trophy this year.
“The little discussion that I have had with the coach Avram Grant, I think the team is ready and we are waiting to see how it goes.”
“From what we saw [in our game against Mali] if that is anything to go by, we [Ghana] stand a good chance in ultimately winning the cup.
“We know it is not going to be easy. We just started [the tournament] and can’t use one match to access countries or teams, so let’s wait for a little while but I think we are very much ready,” he said.
The Black Stars will play against the ‘Pharaohs of Egypt’ on Wednesday in their last group game.
