Former Black Stars player Baba Amando has made a startling revelation that happened at Ghana’s Camp in the 2006 World Cup held in Germany.
Amado explains revolt which is pervasive especially in sub-Sahara Africa is not something new but a problem which has been unresolved since his playing days.
Issues of player bonuses became a worldwide drama in Brazil in 2014 in Brazil after Black Stars midfielder Sulley Muntari was sent home for slapping a management committee member Moses Armah over disagreements with bonuses.
Speaking in an extensive interview with Kumasi-based Ultimate FM disclosed disagreements between players and officials over money issues has been there since their time.
“During our preparation in the UK, we all agreed with the FA officials that we are going to take $50000 as an appearance fee but when we got to Germany before the start of the tournament they didn’t abide by what was agreed”
”In a meeting with the Officials Otu Addo stood up and asked a question about the money. A player I won’t mention his name threw a chair at Nyantakyi and the officials who were there all dodged” Said Amando.
Amando and four other players eventually were dropped from the provisional squad after they agreed all players included were to be given some of the appearance fee.
The issues never made public and Ghana went on to become the only African side to reach the round of 16 in Germany.
