Former Ghana international Mohammed Polo insist the Black Starlets should have won the Africa U17 Championship.
Ghana failed to make history by becoming the first African country to win the competition on three occasions after losing to Mali in the finals.
The Black Starlets team were tipped favorite to annex the trophy having started the competition on a good note recording nine goals in their opening two games after beating Cameroon and Gabon.
The team could not match-up the strength of their Malian counterparts who defeated the former World Champions to win their second title.
Mohammed Polo who is known for his contribution to youth and juvenile football in the country believes the Black Starlets should have clinch the trophy.
“It’s very unfortunate. It shows very clear that there is something lacking with our football. We have to do something at the level for them to gain some maturity because they (The Black Starlets) need some additional value that is what is missing,” he told Happy FM.
“This was a tournament we should have won but we let it go. Fortunately, we have qualified for the World Cup but if we don’t put that additional value toit when we go to the world cup it will be a different thing all together,” he added.
Ghana last won the Africa U17 Championship in 1999 when they defeated Burkina Faso in the finals.
