Bechem United center back Alfred Nelson has jumped to the defence of assaulted referee Nuhu Liman claiming he is the best referee on the local scene with his boldness.
According to the former Liberty Professionals star, Nuhu Liman’s boldness as a referee is second to none in Ghana and does not favour clubs either playing home or away.
He adds that the fairness of the referee is often perceived by home sides as cheating as they expect referees to aid them since they are playing at home.
“I don’t really know what happened during the Elmina Sharks and Medeama SC game but I know this referee is fair and eventually the home team feels he is cheating them,” wrote on facebook.
“He always makes away teams feel comfortable because he doesn’t intimidate them and home teams don’t like that. Home teams always want to be favoured.
“He is brave and not scared to do the right thing and he always gets into trouble by doing that. He is my hero among all referees,” Nelson added.
Referee Nuhu Liman was mercilessly beaten by home fans when Medeama SC visited Elmina Sharks at the Nduom Sports Stadium on Wednesday afternoon leading to a deep cut in his head with blood gushing out like a newly commissioned pipe.
This is the second time the referee has been subjected to brutal beatings as fans of Berekum Chelsea did same to him during clash with Dreams FC at the Golden City Park.
