Christian Atsu was involved in the two late goals that Newcastle United needed to upturn Brighton and Hove Albion 2-1 on Monday night.
The victory returned the Magpies to the top of the table with a two-point advantage over their rivals as the race for the Championship title as well as promotion to the Premier League continues in earnest.
Brighton took an early lead from the penalty spot via Glenn Murray on 14 minutes. The visitors had to wait till late after manager Rafael Benitez threw on substitutes Daryl Murphy and Ayoze Perez.
Ghana midfielder Atsu was involved in the first goal after the Brighton goalkeeper cleared a corner kick which fell to him and his miscued volley fell on Mohamed Diame and into the net where it was helped on by defender Fikayo Tomori’s header.
The visitors were not done and Atsu once again was behind the goal after receiving a pass from Matt Ritchies which he squared for substitute Perez to score unmarked.

The win took Newcastle to 73 points, two above Brighton in the race for the title.
Atsu tweeted his appreciation to the team and fans after the victory.
