The Sports Writers Association of Ghana at their 42nd Awards Night, named Anthony Baffoe, a former Ghana international Sports Personality.
He was awarded for his role in international football administration and his contribution to the development of football in Ghana, particularly at the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG).
He beat boxer Emmanuel Tagoe for the top most award on the night.
However, the Sports Editor for Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm has expressed his disagreement with the decision.
The British man as he is affectionately called quizzed why an award meant for athletes would be given to an administrator.
In the view of the renowned sports editor, Kwesi Nyantakyi the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) who was recently voted as the First Vice President for the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
He said, ‘’ I don’t understand why an award meant for athletes should be given to an administrator even categorizing Tony Baffoe along side Emmanuel Tagoe in the first place in my view was wrong pairing and complete inaccurate. If a sports administrator should be given such award ahead of an athlete if so Swag awards committee claims or thinks then Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi deserves it better than Mr Baffoe.’’

I’m in total DISAGREEMENT with swag sports personality of the year award 2016/17 which went to Mr Anthony Baffoe.
I don’t understand why an award meant for athletes should be given to an administrator even categorizing Tony Baffoe along side Emmanuel Tagoe in the first place in my view was wrong pairing and complete inaccurate.
If a sports administrator should be given such award ahead of an athlete if so Swag awards committee claims or thinks then Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi deserves it better than Mr Baffoe.
Remember Mr Nyantakyi’s Achievement in 2016/27 in sports business is ernomous and incomparable.
He was first elected to Fifa Executive Council Board late last year and again this year a feat which none of has not come closer apart from the late Mr Ohene Djan.
That was not all he was also appointed as CAF first vice president. For your information Lawyer KN also chairs and serve on several adhoc committees of Africa’s highest decision making body in Football as far as the continent is concerned.
I mean to say in my view that Mr Tony Baffoe’s award suppose to have gone to Mr Emmanuel Tagoe, because Tagoe has actually done it all to pick that symbol of recognition.
However Swag can award administrators who stands out in a very special way for their selfless stewardship.
