West Ham United’s Club record signing Andre Dede Ayew is hoping to get off to a good start by scoring goals when he makes his debut against Chelsea on Monday night.
The Black Stars deputy captain who scored on his English Premier League debut for Swansea against Chelsea last season will be hoping history can repeat itself in the opening game of the 2016/2017 season when his West Ham side travels to the Stamford Bridge.
Ayew went on to become the top goalscorer for Swansea with 12 goals and is now hoping to build on that impressive form following his move to join the Hammers.
The 26-year-old has so far enjoyed meeting up with his new team-mates following his Club record £20.5million move this week and hopes to repay the faith the Hammers have shown in him by getting among the goals straight away.
“I would love to get on the scoresheet straight away. I am going to have a good week of training behind me, and hopefully, we can go there and get a good result.
“It will be tough against Chelsea in front of their new manager and their home fans.
“We want to start the season really well, but we know it is going to be a difficult game. We are playing away from home, but it is not impossible for us to get a good result.
“I am really happy to be at West Ham. I had a discussion with the manager, and he made me understand why he wanted me. I spoke to a few players already here who had great things to say about the manager.
“This Club has a lot of ambition, and I want to be a part of that. I had a good time at Swansea and coming to West Ham is a great step forward for me.”
Ayew is excited to be linking up with his former team-mate Dimitri Payet once again and hopes they can reproduce the form which saw them become major stars at Marseille.
Ayew added: “We played for about three years together and built a great relationship. I am happy to be in the same squad with him again, and he is a great player.
“I think he can do even more. We worked together for a long time, and I know his style of play.”
Ayew showed his qualities from set-pieces for Swansea last season, but he says there will only be one player taking free-kicks from West Ham this season!
“There will be no competition. It is part of Dimitri’s game, and he will get us goals from set-pieces.”
