The 2016/2017 National Women’s League (NWL) champions, Ampem Darkoa Ladies and Police Ladies, champions of the maiden Sanford Women’s FA Cup, will clash on Saturday to determine who is who as women’s football prepare for its new season.
The clash scheduled for the Baba Yara Stadium, will not only give the bragging rights to the winners, but it will also add up to the rivalry between the northern zone and southern zone in women’s football.
Until last season when Ampem Darkoa from the northern zone won the NWL by beating Hasaacas Ladies, the title had never left the southern zone. Incidentally, Police Ladies also from southern zone again snatched the Sanford FA Cup title when they played Fabulous Ladies in the final. And northern zone are looking forward for a revenge.
Saturday’s game which serves as a curtain raiser to the NWL which kicks off next week also presents the two sides an opportunity to showcase their teams and perhaps, give a prelude of what should be expected of them this season.
Both sides are waxing confident ahead of the game and Ampem Darkoa, who have secured the services of the likes of Priscilla Okyere, are confident of a win.
Though Police Ladies will miss the services of Faiza Ibrahim, the lady whose two goals won them the cup, they believe they have good replacements to beat the Techiman-based team in their first ever clash.
