Aduana Stars remained on top of the log after the week 5 fixtures. The Dormaa based club welcomed Hearts of Oaks to the Nana Agyemang Badu park in what was the pick of the week.
Daniel Darkwa opened the scores just 9 minutes into the game, heading home a Godfred Saka corner kick. 8 minutes later, that’s the 17th minute, Derrick Sasraku doubled the lead for the ‘Ogya’ boys.
Hearts of Oaks couldn’t fight back, returning to Accra empty handed, their first defeat of the season.
Asante Kotoko at home to Elmina Sharks left it late. The Porcupine Warriors were expected to pick an easy win against the Premier League debutants.
Coach Amissah and his boys put up a gallant display at the Baba Yara Stadium. They frustrated Kotoko with a very pragmatic approach.
Just when the centre referee was about blowing the final whistle 5 minutes into added time, Emmanuel Gyamfi, the new fan belt of the reds lighted up the stadium with a wonderful volley to win all 3 points for Kotoko.
It was all joy for the kotoko players and fans, sorrow for the Sharks.
The win ensured that Kotoko keep up with Aduana Stars on top of the league table with both clubs on 13 points after 5 games.
Earlier on Saturday, a Michael Kporvi brace within 3 minutes, 65 and 67 handed Tema Youths a 2-0 win against Bolga Allstars. At the Golden City Park in Berekum, it rained goals.
Ashanti Gold were humiliated by Berekum Chelsea. The Blues scored 5 goals. Stephen Sarfo got a brace. Seth Appiah, Brimah Mohammed and Stephen Amankona got the other 3 goals for the home side.
Kofi Owusu managed to get one goal for Ashanti Gold to ease their pain.
Great Olympics made it 5 games without a win after a goalless drawn game against WAFA. The wonder club sits at the base on the league log with only 2 points to their name.
Bechem United defeated Liberty Professionals by a lone goal from substitute Hamza Mohammed from a Yaw Anorl assist.
Defending Champions Wa All stars recorded their first win of the season. They hosted Inter Allies at the Wa Park.
Though they won by a late goal from a spot kick, Wahidu Mumuni’s added time goal couldn’t put smiles on their faces because of a terrible injury suffered by their captain Asuandzie Baffoe. The attackers fell unconsciously after a tussle in 86 in the goal area of Inter Allies.
Ebusua Dwarf play Medeama SC at the Cape Coast Stadium on Monday afternoon.
