Defender Cynthia Adobea has been ruled out of Ghana’s final group game against Mali on Saturday.
She will, however, undergo a MRI scan today to assess the extent of injury and also determine if she can play again should the Queens advance in this competition.
Adobea picked up an injury in the 1-1draw game against Nigeria last Wednesday, and though she played the entire game, she has been limping afterwards, compelling the medical team to request for the test.
Team doctor Dr Mabel Aboah said Adobea was not in any danger but the MRI test will allay all fears.
“There is a discomfort in the right hip, so it may be an overstretched muscle.
“We,however, do not want to take any risk so we are going in for the scan. Once we know exactly what it is, we will give the right treatment.
“For now, I can confirm that she will not play in the game against Mali on Saturday as she needs to rest. The outcome of the MRI will determine her fate in the rest of the competition,” Dr Aboah explained.
Coach Yussif Basigi said it was a disappointment that Adobea, who had picked her rhythm at this competition will miss the final group game, there was an equally competent player to replace her.
It is most likely he will deploy Regina Antwi to the right back, push Linda Eshun to the left and keep Rosemary Ampem and Janet Egyir in the centre.
