The Universal Merchant Bank has opened its 38th branch at the University of Professional studies (UPSA) in Madina. The new branch has been opened to rope in the unbanked in the community as well as make banking services readily available to the university community.
The opening of the new branch forms part of the bank’s strategic plan to improve its brand visibility and expand its distribution channels across the country.
This 38th branch will enhance customer convenience by investing in the expansion of both physical and digital channels.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with 3FM Business, the Chief Executive Officer of the Universal Merchant Bank John Awuah, explained that although there is competition, the bank will capitalize on good customer relationship to enable them thrive.
“We put our customers first. How we deliver services is of importance to us and therefore our good customer relationship will make our customers sell us out to others for them to come and bank with us.”
He further indicated that the expansion of the bank’s physical presence is critical for meeting the current needs of customers and also capitalize on advances in technology to lead the market in digital banking.
“Though we are an old bank our branch is fresh and it resonates very well with the student population especially the tertiary student. We are also investing heavily in technology because we know student would prefer using their cellphones and computers to bank.”
Meanwhile chancellor of University of Professional Studies Drolor Bosso Adamtey also lauded the bank’s effort in bringing its services to the doorsteps of the UPSA community. He however charged management of the bank to make corporate social responsibilities a priority.
“I am grateful that you have taken the opportunity to look at a community like UPSA to pitch your brand. Coming here is one thing and brand maintenance is another thing. I have confidence that you would take advantage of the opportunities that surrounds you. UMB is advancing. Don’t forget your social responsibilities as well. Make certain contributions that will remind us that you here for the good of the community and not just for making profit.”
UMB is a full-service financial institution which opened its doors to the public on 15th March 1972 as the premier merchant bank in Ghana.
In 2005, UMB introduced retail banking with the acquisition of a Universal Banking License.
