United Kingdom’s Prime Minister Theresa May has sent a congratulatory message to President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over his victory in the December 7 elections.
Number 10 acknowledged the intensity of the pre-election campaign, describing it as a “hard-fought campaign”.
The message observed that the margin of victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate was “impressive”.
Nana Akufo-Addo won the polls with 53.85 per cent of 99 per cent of total valid votes collated.
“Our two countries share a strong and long-standing relationship, and one which I value deeply.
“I believe that the period ahead offers us a great opportunity to do more together.
“I look forward to continuing our excellent co-operation on defiance, drugs, crime and national security, and to working together on challenges such as tackling corruption.”
The British PM, who took over after David Cameron resigned, promised to deepen the economic cooperation aside the areas of governance, poverty reduction, education and health.
“I wish you and the people of Ghana every success.”
Ms May expects an imminent visit from Nana Akufo-Addo to London.
