Two young women who attempted to transfer their votes from Berekum to Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region without satisfying all the requirements have been arrested by the Police.
Officials at the Sunyani Municipal Electoral Commission say the two ladies could not provide proof of residency in Sunyani where they were transferring their vote to; something that raised suspicion.
Their eligibility to transfer the votes, according to the officials, was challenged by the National Democratic Congress parliamentary aspirant for Sunyani, Kwasi Oppong Ababio.
The Municipal Electoral Officer, Mr Yaw Opoku told TV3 that upon questioning, the two ladies, said to be members of the New Patriotic Party, could not provide proof of their residency in Sunyani West where they wanted their votes transferred to.
A police officer stationed at the EC office was immediately called in to arrest the two ladies who are currently under police investigations.
TV3 sources within the Regional Police Command also confirmed the arrest but declined to give further details except to say the two are under interrogation.
The arrest is said to be brewing tension in the area.
