The Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress, Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, has praised the 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for the maturity he displayed in preserving Ghana’s peace, in the aftermath of the disputed 2012 presidential election.
Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah recounted the visit to the TUC by the NPP presidential candidate in 2013 to elicit their opinions about his decision to challenge the results of the 2012 election in Court.
According to the TUC boss, “that singular action you took helped to keep the peace that we are enjoying today. We commend you for that,” stressing that “what was even more remarkable was the maturity you demonstrated after the Supreme Court verdict in August 2013.”
Dr. Yaw Baah was addressing a meeting between the TUC and Nana Akufo-Addo on Monday, October 31 when the latter paid a courtesy call on the workers’ union at its headquarters on Monday, October 31, 2016.
According to the TUC boss, even though the country faces a myriad of problems, there are still some positives worth celebrating.
“One thing we have which we all cherish is the peace we are enjoying, and that is why Nana’s acceptance of the Supreme Court verdict in 2012 was extremely significant. We have witnessed politicians in other countries who have caused chaos,” he explained.
The visit by the NPP to the TUC to outline his solutions to the problems facing the country, in the view of Dr. Baah, “is an indication of the respect you (Akufo-Addo) have for the TUC and the recognition of the contribution of working people of Ghana to the development of our dear country.”
