Some teachers in the Upper West Region have threatened to vote out the John Mahama-led government if it fails to pay them their salary arrears among other unpaid monies by the end of November.
According to the teachers in the region who are under the Coalition of Concerned Teachers umbrella, they have been battling the government to pay the arrears for the past four years but without success hence the latest decision.
They explained the arrears accrued as a result of the government’s policy to pay newly recruited teachers only three months of their salary irrespective of how many years or months they have worked.
They argued though there have been some engagements with stakeholders on the policy, which they have described as killer, no conclusions have been reached to safeguard industrial peace.
Addressing a news conference, the Upper West Regional Chairman of the Union, Alhasan A Salifu, urged their members to vote out the National Democratic Congress government on December 7 if all their salary arrears are not paid at the end of November.
“We are reaching out to all members and all affected teachers alike to vote out the NDC party led by President John Mahama come December 7 if teachers are not paid their arrears by the end of this Month,” he urged.
He has consequently asked their members to bear in mind their salary arrears, unpaid promotion arrears, 2012/2013 incremental credit arrears and the cancellation of teacher trainee allowance among others when they turn up on December 7 to cast their vote.
