Editor of the Informer, a pro-government newspaper, Andy Kankam has cautioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to desist from blaming former President Jerry John Rawlings for the party’s defeat in the December 7 elections.
Greater Accra Regional Organizer for the NDC, Anthony Nukpenu, has blamed the former president for the party’s humiliating defeat in the December elections. He maintained that former President Rawlings publicly painted the NDC out as corrupt, which the New Patriotic Party (NPP) capitalized on during their campaign.
But speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise morning show Wednesday, Andy Kankam said the NDC caused its own defeat by not paying heed to former President Rawlings’ counsels.
“The former President from day one warned the NDC several times that things were not being done properly but they wouldn’t listen. He has ruled this country for years so a lot of information comes to him especially from party foot soldiers.
“Sometimes they come to my office, I listen to them because they are the soldiers of the party. We published these things but they didn’t listen. We were in this country in 2008 when the NPP engaged in expensive campaigns with the use of celebrities and huge billboards that led to their defeat.”
He advised the NDC to do proper introspection and put their party in order.
“Per the NDC’s constitution, once the party goes into opposition, the Chairman becomes the leader. But I think they should start with a re-branding of the party. They the party structures must be revived or properly re-tooled to function.”
