All primary and junior high schools to serve as polling stations on Wednesday, December 7 will not open despite the day not declared a statutory public holiday.
The students and teachers will be given the day off “to enable the premises of such schools to be used as polling stations and the selected teachers as electoral officers also perform their national assignment respectively on election day”.
A statement signed by the Director of Public Relations of the Ghana Education Service (GES) a week ago said teachers at secondary levels who have been billed to serve as electoral officers can also take the day off.
“Students who turned 18 years and above and registered during the recent registration exercise will be allowed to go to their respective polling stations with exeat to exercise their right of voting after which they are expected to return to school.”
It confirmed that all basic schools will vacate on Thursday, December 15 as scheduled.
