A mini benz bus carrying several containers of ‘Sasso’ insecticide caught fire on the N1 Highway on Thursday morning and burnt beyond recognition after it was hit by an oil truck.
Several explosions were heard during the burning due to the pressurized insecticide cans loaded in the car.
No fatality was recorded but some onlookers and other road users were hurt during the process. The incident also caused heavy vehicular traffic on the stretch.
Thick black smoke was seen bellowing in the distance moments after the incident occurred. An eyewitness who spoke to 3news.com said “immediately under the Dzorwulu traffic light, near Fiesta Royale, a vehicle belonging to Sasso caught fire and all the insecticides are exploding terribly.
“Everybody is running for cover because of the explosions. I can see a ball of fire where I’m standing. Traffic has come to a standstill at the intersection and nobody is getting close to the fire. The van was going to deliver the insecticides.”
The driver of the vehicle is said to have escaped unhurt.
