Outgoing President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the state security agencies to deploy personnel across the country to round up any person who vandalises government property in the name of excitement over Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s victory.
This directive follows reports of attacks on some supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) by their New Patriotic Party (NPP) counterparts and the vandalisation of state property.
Images of a toll booth destroyed by burning in Fiapre in the Brong Ahafo Region have made rounds on social media.
A statement released by the outgoing Minister of Communications, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah on Sunday, December 11 said “President John Dramani Mahama has expressed disappointment at the inability or unwillingness of the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to call its rampaging supporters to order, following series of attacks on innocent citizens and supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC)”.
As a result, the statement further said, “President Mahama has accordingly directed the security agencies to deploy across the country and arrest any person(s) caught vandalising Government property or attacking innocent Ghanaians”.
