A group of Progressive People’s Party went berserk Friday morning and allegedly attacked teachers and students of the Kpeve Senior Technical School in South Dayi of the Volta Region, leaving several of them injured.
At least three teachers were beaten with one of them getting his shirt torn in the process while several of the students sustained various degree of injuries from stones thrown at them by the supporters.
One student who suffered a serious injury in the attack was taken to a hospital in the area where he was stitched, the Assistant Headmaster of the school, Michael Adzie, confirmed to 3News.
About 30 vehicles loaded with the party supporters who were on their way to Dzemeni for a rally, were said to have entered the premises of the school at about 8:30am when classes were in session, blaring their horns which the teachers and the students protested.
According to the Assistant Headmaster, the loud noise that characterised the entry of the supporters caused a distraction to the students who were having their lessons at the time, hence and some teachers came out to tell the supporters to stay off the campus but they got angry.
“They blared their horn at a very high degree and entered the school compound. I told them it is a school premises and should not come here to do politics,” Mr Adzie said, noting in an attempt to stop them from further coming to the campus, they started hurling stones at them.
He said the three teachers who initially prevented one of the drivers of the cars from coming further were assaulted as well as some of the students who came out.
Mr Adzie said they have reported the matter to the Police in the area for investigation and further action.
