About 120 members of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) including two executives in the Ashanti Region have announced their defection to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Addressing a press conference in Kumasi, Former PPP Ashanti regional Communication Manager Kofi Amoabeng said the defection is based on what he calls incompetent leadership and dictatorship within the party.
“We all defected from the socialist Convention People’s Party and formed the Progressive People’s Party with a lot of complaints about leadership incompetency and dictatorship but we are currently faced with the same problem in PPP,” he claimed.
The defectors cited lack of logistics and financial support for party activities as well as mistrust within the PPP among reasons for denouncing their membership to join the NDC.
According to them, the impressive infrastructural development executed across the country by President Mahama makes him the best among the other presidential candidates to receive their support.
The group pledged to help the NDC achieve its one million vote target in the Ashanti Region by embarking on a vigorous campaign for the party.
Other executives include Kwabena Amoateng, former Ashanti Regional Organiser and Patron of the Germany Chapter of PPP, and Benedict Awuah, a former PPP parliamentary candidate for Atwima Kwanwoma constituency.
