The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has as per Section 80 of the National Pensions Act increased the monthly pension by 18 per cent.
While earners of more than GH¢100 as of December, 2016 get a flat rate of 15 per cent as increment and an additional amount of GH¢17.41, fresh ones will receive GH¢276.
This was disclosed by Head of Public Relations of SSNIT Eva Amegashie on Wednesday, January 4.
Speaking in an interview on TV3’s Midday Live, Ms Amegashie said as per the increment, which SSNIT is enjoined to do every year, those earning GH¢276 will get GH¢334.81 at the end of January.
She said some pensioners earn as high as GH¢2,900 based on earnings during active service.
Ms Amegashie therefore advised workers to be truthful with their earnings in order to receive enough after retirement.
She talked up the biometric registration for pensioners, insisting it helps her organization get more data about retirees and plug loopholes of double registration and suchlike.
Pensions are released the third Thursday of every month.
