As part of efforts to boost education in the country, Nhyira Mma Foundation, a non-governmental organization, has presented educational materials to over 200 underprivileged children in some Kindergartens, junior and senior high schools in Nkawkaw District of the Eastern Region.
Pupils and students are from communities including Wawase, Odumase, Site and Wisiwisi.
Beaming with appreciation, the beneficiaries took turns to receive exercise books, pens, erasers and other educational materials.
The event was witnessed by the chiefs and elders of these communities.
The presentation was the second by the NGO to help underprivileged children whose parents cannot afford to purchase reading and exercise books and other educational materials for them.
The founder of the NGO, Nhyiraba Kwabena Assirifie, who is also a media practitioner, said the presentation forms part of efforts to assist the beneficiaries by complementing the efforts of their parents.
He explained that some children in the area are unable to go to school because their parents are unable to buy them educational materials and pay their school fees, hence the foundation’s initiative to help these children.
Mr. Asirifi said education is key to national development and therefore urged other philanthropist and individuals to assist underprivileged children access education without any hindrance since government cannot do that alone.
The Chief of Wawase, Nana Agyapon Ntra I, on behalf of the pupils, students, parents and the elders expressed gratitude to the NGO and its founder for the gesture.
