The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has finally been informed about the death of Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.
The Akyenpimhene, Kyedomhene , Gyasihene, Ankobiahene, Mahwerehene and Nkosuohene who are members of the Asantehene’s cabinet, and Kokofuhene, Kenyasihemaa and other members of the Asantehemaa’s cabinet jointly informed the Otumfuo about the sad event on Thursday, 17th November 2016.
The Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II died on Tuesday at the age of 109 having reigned for 39 years.
TV3’s Ashanti regional correspondent Benjamin Aidoo reports that the Asantehene having received news of her demise proceeded to the Kumasi Traditional Council to announce the sad news to the council.
Members of the Kumasi Traditional Council made up of Kontihene, Akwamuhene and others expressed their condolences to Asantehene and the Asanteman on the loss of the queenmother.
Bantamahene, Baffour Asare Owusu also entreated nananom (chiefs) to join him to express his condolences to Otumfuo.
The traditional atompane drum was then sounded to herald a state of morning in the Asanteman.
