Even before he takes office, president-elect Nana Akufo-Addo is being flooded with several requests; the latest being a save-our-soul call from Ghanaians studying in Russia.
The students are counting on his experience in international relations to help them deal with problems such as accommodation and stipends.
“Over the years, Ghanaian students on the bilateral scholarship of the Russia Federation have had problems with stipends; students receive a little amount of money for monthly out-keep despite high inflation rate and economic crises in the Russian Federation,” the group said in a statement.
Vice-President of the NUGS-Russia, Abdul-Kadir Ameyaw hoped “with your experience in international affairs and law, we believe you have the solutions to these problems. We will plead with you to hearken our plea. We are freezing on the cold streets of Russia and we need your help to get out of the streets. We hope and pray that you will expeditiously solve this problem for us and for the future of our country.”
The group congratulated him for winning this year’s general elections. It also commended President John Mahama for accepting defeat and also thanked his government’s support to them over the years.
The statement was hopeful that the incoming government, like exhibited by previous governments, would always have the interest of Ghanaians (home and abroad) at heart and “will do everything in its power to come to the rescue of the people”.
