The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has accused the opposition NPP of scheming with some NDC members to get Majority Leader Alban Bagbin out of parliament.
General Mosquito, as he is popularly known, made the allegation in Nadowli where he addressed chiefs and party faithful as part of the Chief of Staff’s campaign tour of the Upper West region.
He said the NPP is growing seeds of discord among NDC supporters to make it seem President John Mahama is against Bagbin’s candidature.
“It’s not everybody who wants Bagbin in Parliament… The NPP, the name they fear in parliament is Bagbin and when they fear you they know they can’t attack you frontally because if they do and unmask themselves as NPP attacking Bagbin they know NDC will come around and then defend Bagbin,” Mr. Nketia said.
He added: “So they go behind and use some of the NDC people so it appears they are attacking from within… It’s NPP that is using pliable NDC hands to prosecute that agenda. Those pliable NDC hands are traitors.
“We are clear in our minds in Accra, from the leadership of the party, President John Mahama wants to tell you that those rumouring around that it is in his interest to see Bagbin out of Parliament, they are not NDC people and that Mahama is not sponsoring any candidate in Nadowli-Kaleo here. So our one and only candidate is Alban Bagbin.”
Speaking to the chiefs and opinion leaders of Nadowli Traditional area Mr Nketia noted that there is no way the President or any other loyal supporter of the NDC would engage in such act.
He said the NPP resorted to similar act to destroy the career of the late President John Mills in 2008, reminding NDC supporters to remain united and throw their weight behind the majority leader as well as vote massively for Mahama come the December 7 polls.
The Chief of Staff Mr Julius Debrah and Mr. Nketia are in Nadowli to campaign for Bagbin.
