The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is returning to the head office of the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) on Monday to pick a new voters’ register after its director of elections claimed he received 31 “corrupted” files as lists of voters for the December 7 elections.
Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah said the numbers on some of the lists have suddenly changed.
Speaking on TV3’s News @10 on Saturday, November 5, Mr Korsah claimed that the EC has not, as of Saturday, given political parties a copy of the voters’ register.
He said the number of voters on proxy, transfer and special lists cannot be specified by the EC for “only God knows”.
“We are told it is available,” he says of answers his party gets from the EC anytime they demand the lists. “Why we are not being given, only God knows.”
He said there was an arrangement to give the political parties soft copies of the register but some of the files they received on their flash drives were corrupted.
He called on party supporters to mass up at the headquarters of the EC to join him pick the lists up on Monday.
“We may have to march to the Commission on Monday to demand this list from them and we will encourage every NPP member anywhere who is free to accompany us to the Commission to go and demand the list.”
