The Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) has reached an agreement with the state security agencies to ban the movement of motorbikes from 5:00pm Wednesday, December 7 to 6:00am Thursday, its Chair has announced.
This is one of the several measures taken to ensure violence-free elections.
Addressing the media half a day to go to the polls, Charlotte Osei also said the security agents will not permit motorbikes within 400 meters of each polling station on Election Day.
She said no foreign materials would also be permitted into the voting screen, except a ballot paper.
The sale of alcohol within 500 meters of poling centers has also been outlawed.
Mrs Osei reiterated the readiness of the Commission to organize successful polls, saying “our National Collation Center is ready!”
Presidential candidates are expected to have two representatives at the Center with the National Media Commission and other stakeholders also expected to have representatives.
She outlined the roles of party agents at polling stations, noting that they are not supposed to tell election officers what to do nor attempt inspecting IDs cards of voters.
