President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned two major projects in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Constituency of the Central Region.
President Mahama commissioned a new fish processing plant and a refurbished bridge in Elmina on Monday, November 28, the first day of his two-day tour of the Region.
Addressing the chiefs and people of Elmina during the commissioning, President Mahama paid tribute to his predecessor, late President John Atta Mills, for conceiving the idea of the processing plant and a landing site for the people of Elmina.
He said work on the landing beach site and a fishing harbor will begin soon and expected to be completed within the next four years of his administration.
President Mahama reiterated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wants to make Elmina a center of fish processing and fish market.
On the Elmina bridge, the president explained that government decided to connect the popular heritage site, Elmina Castle, to the fish market.
He added that the bridge has been given a height to allow the canoes to surf the Brenya Lagoon, which will be dredged soon, he indicated.
He said the metallic bridge was replaced with a concrete one to save it from the vagaries of the sea breeze.
Omanhen of Elmina Traditional Area Nana Kojo Kondua thanked the people for making it to the ceremony, albeit late in the evening.
