The North Tongu District in the Volta Region placed bottom of this year’s District League Table in 216th position, with La Nkwantanang-Madina District in the Greater Accra Region picking the first spot.
Tema Municipality narrowly dropped from its first place in 2015 to a second place this year.
“We have a new king; the La Nkwantanang-Madina is first on the 2016 DLT (District League Table). I must say they toppled the Tema Metropolitan, which was first in 2015. Tema is second on the 2016 table,” Dr. Franklin Oduro of the Center for Democratic Development announced Thursday.
The District League Table by the CDD collects data from the various districts in the country and ranks the districts based on six indicator; Education, Sanitation, Rural Water, Health, Security and Governance.
“The La Nkwantanang-Madina was able to do this with a score of about 78% across the six indicators,” Dr Oduro who is the Head of Research at the CDD said.
The Chief Executive Officer of the La Nkwantanang-Madina, Franklin Anku told 3FM the victory is as a result of good leadership and hard work.
“The change came about, actually, as a result of good leadership and team work, commitment and dedication of our staff.
“The research was done based on some six thematic areas like education health and police coverage and had it not been that we have hardworking staff we would not have secured this first position,” he said.
Mr. Anku advised heads of institutions, especially those in charge of the various districts in Ghana, to make ‘good leadership’ their hallmark, adding that he will urge whoever succeeds him as the chief executive officer to work hard to maintain their first position.
