President John Dramani Mahama has called on eligible Ghanaians to be at the polling stations to exercise their franchise on Wednesday, December 7.
According to him, all is ready for the seventh elections under the Fourth Republic.
Addressing the nation on the eve of the polls, President Mahama said Ghanaians should rise to the occasion by consolidating democracy once more.
“The moment is here that we must demonstrate our democratic credentials,” he said.
“It is your civic responsibility to vote,” he advised. “Let everyone exercise their franchise in deciding who governs our country over the next four years.”
According to him, the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) has expended tireless efforts in preparing for the polls.
What is left, he pointed out, is for Ghanaians to conduct the exercise peacefully.
“Securing a peaceful election will rest heavily on how we conduct ourselves.”
The president and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces expressed confidence that the country will emerge “stronger and more respected among the comity of nations”.
He advised polling agents as well as election officers to also conduct themselves in “fair and neutral” manner.
The president did not shy of expressing commitment to ensure peaceful polls.
