George Andah Comes Under Attack From C/R NDC; Accused of Nana Addo Influence

The Central Region branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a statement to condemn the recent attack by New Patriotic Party’s Awutu Senya West parliamentary candidate, George Andah, against NDC’s Hannah Serwaa Tetteh.

Over the week, at a rally in Bawjiase, Mr Andah questioned the whereabouts of the husband of the Foreign Minister.

“I came here with my wife and children,” he said at the rally, “please tell Hannah to also come and show us her husband.”

His comments engendered mixed reactions with some women activists condemning him for such a remark.

In a statement on Sunday, November 6, the NDC in the Central Region said Mr Andah’s “retrogressive” and “primitive” attack is “controlled” by his party’s flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The regional party branch said no wonder Nana Akufo-Addo has been silent on similar attacks by Kofi Okyere Agyakum in Fanteakwa South Constituency and Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

“We believe strongly that all these unguarded attacks against women has the tacit support of their party’s flagbearer-Akuffo Addo who is noted for his disrespect for the dignity of women since his loud silence over these bizarre, unprovoked and flaking attacks on women by his party’s parliamentary candidates such as Ken Ohene Agyapong of Assin Central, Kofi Okyere Agyakum of Fanteakwa South and George Andah of Awutu/Senya West are concerned.”

The statement said Nana Akufo-Addo may even be jealous of the inroads made by Ms Tetteh at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, where he served under the Kufuor-led government.

“This is a woman of substance who has not turned our Country into a Cocaine coast as a Foreign Affairs Minister; an accomplished woman who has accounted for every diplomatic passport issued and not George Andah’s flagbearer-Akuffo Addo of the missing 44 diplomatic passports fame when he was a Foreign Affairs Minister.”

The party claims the NPP parliamentary candidates should not be voted for into Parliament since they cannot make any meaningful contributions to bills on women given their perceptions about them.

The party is confident the Foreign Minister by the latest development will get a massive endorsement by the constituents in the December 7 elections.
