General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia is expected to be in Togo on Friday, November 4 to launch the Lome branch of the party, an executive has revealed.
Mathias Johnson Alagbo, popularly known as Kabila, who is the Volta Region Deputy Youth Organiser, disclosed on 3FM’s Sunrise that Mr Asiedu Nketia’s mission is simple.
He is to whip up the support base of the party in that country for members to return home on December 7 to vote for President John Dramani Mahama, Kabila said.
“And I can assure you that whoever will be coming from Togo, Nigeria [and] Benin to vote are legitimate Ghanaians.”
Kabila’s reason comes in the wake of the opposition party New Patriotic Party’s launch of ‘Operation Eagle Eye’, which is aimed at preventing supposed Togolese and Beninois from taking part in December 7 elections.
According to Volta Region Chairman of NPP John-Peter Amewu, who was also speaking on Sunrise, an external mechanism has been put in place to fish out all foreign persons who may attempt to cross the border to vote.
“The result will be made known to Ghanaians when the time comes,” he told host Winston Amoah on Thursday, November 3.
Mr Asiedu Nketia’s mission is suspected to be in line with previous launches of Volta Caucus in Ghana. The Caucus is to encourage all Voltarians to return home on December 7 to vote.
“No settler should feel intimidated when trying to exercise his voting rights because the NDC is bound to protect the right of every Ghanaian,” General Mosquito told Voltarians in the Ashanti Region at the launch of the Region’s Volta Caucus.
