The Klottey Korle parliamentary candidate of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Joshua Kofi Rockson, has withdrawn from the December 7 elections to support National Democratic Congress’ Dr Zanetor Rawlings.
The contest in that constituency took a dip after the death of Progressive People’s Party’s candidate Eva Lokko.
But activity seems to have returned there with the latest decision by Mr Rockson.
He said his decision was as a result of the “numerous development projects” undertaken so far by the daughter of former president Jerry John Rawlings.
“She is one politician who speaks on issues and has never attacked any political opponent since she began her campaign in this constituency,” the GCPP candidate said on Tuesday, November 8 at a press conference.
“The NDC is blessed to have such a candidate to lead them; I can see clearly that victory awaits her on December 7.”
Dr Rawlings beat incumbent Member of Parliament Nii Armah Ashietey in NDC’s primaries to emerge candidate.
She is expected to face competition from New Patriotic Party’s legal luminary Philip Addison and independent candidate Nii Noi Nortey, who is a former constituency chairman of Mr Addison’s party.
Mr Rockson has since written to the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) to officially withdraw from the contest.
