President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo has condemned the post-election violence in some parts of the country as he admonished all to embrace forgiveness and exhibit kindness.
Many individuals and institutions have spoken vociferously against the unwarranted attacks on perceived political opponents hours after Akufo-Addo was declared winner of the December 7 polls.
At a national thanksgiving service Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium to celebrate his electoral victory, the president-elect joined the chorous, calling the attacks unbecoming.
“I recognize that there have been some incidences of misconducts and altercations that shouldn’t have happened. Such behavior is unbecoming of us,” Akufo-Addo deplored.
The president-elect charted a course, which he implored Ghanaians including supporters of his party – New Patriotic Party – to pursue.
“I call on all Ghanaians, everybody, to act with kindness, generosity and magnanimity towards one another, and to forgive anyone who may have wronged us; but remember the battle is the Lord’s.”
The thanksgiving service was attended by tens of men of God, party executives and thousands of NPP supporters adorned with white apparel.
Nana Akufo-Addo also acknowledged the enormous task ahead of him as the country’s leader and tasked all to support him and prayed for God’s blessings to succeed.
He took refuge in Isaiah 40:31 which read in part that “but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength…”.
He therefore declared, “I have no doubt that with God on our side we will succeed…he makes things beautiful in his time. This is his appointed time.”
Nana Akufo-Addo paid glowing tribute to persons who helped him to chalk this historic electoral victory interspersing his address with emotional remembrance of hardworking members of the NPP who did not live to see him becoming Ghana’s president.
