The president of the US Ghana Chamber Of Commerce, Florence Torson Hart has urged Ghanaians to take the upcoming elections serious and vote.
Speaking to Onua Business News, she says beyond being a civic responsibility, the elections give citizens the opportunity to change the fortunes of the country for the better.
She added that decisions made by whichever political party voted into power affect the populace directly and indirectly and therefore choosing not to vote is not the best of decision.
Ghana, according to Mrs. Hart, has come a long way in deepening its democratic credentials therefore the upcoming 2016 election is another opportunity for the country to prove to the world that multi-party democracy has come to stay.
In this regard, she advised the public especially the youth not to engage in activities that will mar the peace currently being enjoyed in the country.
She further advised against vote buying and urged the citizenry not to make the decision as to whom to vote for on the gifts they have received from politicians but rather those with the most viable message to improve their lot.
Investors such as the US-Ghana Chamber of Commerce can only do business in countries they believe their investments will be safe, therefore Ghana must ensure there is peace before, during and after the upcoming elections, she said.
The US–Ghana Chamber of commerce, is a body set up to foster trade and investment between Ghana and the United States of America. These investments cut across various fields including health, education and agriculture.
