December 7 Not Holiday – GES Tells Schools

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has debunked speculations suggesting that the election day which falls on December 7 is a public holiday.

A statement issued by the GES on Friday maintained that teachers and educational workers are supposed to be at post after voting.  It was signed by its Director of Public Relations, Rev Jonathan Bettey.

It also asked students who are eligible to vote to return to the classroom after casting their ballots, and cautioned them against loitering around polling stations.

“It is to be noted that, Wednesday, 7. December, 2016 is not a holiday, therefore all teachers, students and educational workers as supposed to be at post after voting.”

The statement further announced that public basic schools will vacate on Thursday, 15th December, 2016.

“Heads of schools are requested to follow the academic calendar as planned and are to comply with the above directive,” it said.
