The national U-20 women’s team, the Black Princesses, could not make it to the quarter finals of the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after a 1-1 draw with the United States on Monday.
The Princesses needed a win to make it to the knock-out stage, having lost to New Zealand and drawn with France in their previous games.
Defender Ernestina Abambila’s long range shot beat Casey Murphy in goal for the Americans in the 20th minute to give Ghana the needed boost.
But the Americans equalized in two minutes after Mallory Pugh’s solo effort beat goalie Victoria Antwi-Adjei.
The score remained same till the end though the two sides came close to finding a winner.
The result left Ghana with two points after three games while the Americans went top of Group C with five points.
France joined the Americans in the next round after beating New Zealand 2-0 in the other group clash played concurrently.
While France play Germany in the quarter final on Friday, USA will play Mexico for a place in the semi-final.
