This year’s Bolgatanga International Craft and Art Fair (BICAF) is set to come off from December 1 – 4. The annual trade fair will be held at the Jubilee Park, located at the heart of Bolgatanga, in the Upper East region of Ghana.
The Upper East region is considered one of the country’s poorest regions. Residents there, though very industrious, have limited opportunities to earn decent income to feed themselves and family.
It is for this and many other reasons why BICAF has become necessary as it resolves to reverse the poverty rate in the region and other parts of the country.
One of the opportunities for Ghanaians living in the Upper East region to earn an income is through learning a craft such as smock making, basket weaving, leather work, fabric weaving, etc. Now BICAF is giving these artisans the opportunity to display their products to the world to expand their profit base.
The Bolgatanga International Craft and Art Fair is being organized by TradeAID Integrated in partnership with International Service and certified by World Fair Trade Organization.
It is worth noting that BICAF has over the past years created the enabling environment for artisans to exhibit their talent and skills aims at giving an opportunity them to showcase their products and earn an income. They are also afforded the opportunity to establish partnerships for long term trading and business.
At this year’s BICAF trade fair, hundreds of exhibitors who are into smock making, basket weaving, leather works, bead making, wood carving, etc would converge for this life changing event in December. Organizers are putting together catering services and variety of entertainments at BICAF to ensure that the event is successful.
TradeAID considers fair trade in every aspect as key in to promote development.
“Fair trade means a fair deal for everyone and we believe that fair trade should be a common practice for businesses around the world.
“At BICAF, we aim to implement and promote fair trade, and encourage more traders and businesses to put fair trade into practice,” TradeAID said in a statement.
TradeAID has also set up a crowd-funding to raise funds for BICAF: Click here to learn more .
