The vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Bawumia at a public lecture in Accra on September 8, lashed out at President John Mahama and his National Democratic Congress government for its poor handling of the economy in the last eight years.
According to Dr Bawumia, who is also a former deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana, he raised what he called “170 facts,” which he has since been pursuing Mr Amissah-Arthur to answer.

At a national youth rally of the NPP at Moree on November 13, Dr Bawumiah claimed the Vice President has been running away from answering what he tagged at that platform as “170 questions” on the economy .
“I hear this is the Vice President Amissah-Arthur’s hometown. Is that the case? I have been looking for him. He has 170 questions to answer and he has been running away so tell him I came to his hometown and he should answer the 170 questions. There is nowhere to hide again,” he said.
But Vice President on Saturday accepted the challenge by the NPP running mate, saying, “If he claims to have asked 170 questions, he should bring the questions. We will give him the answers”
Addressing large crowd of party supporters and members in his hometown [Moree] in the Central Region after an NDC health walk, Mr Amissah-Arthur described Dr Bawumia’s questions as “statements and claims.
“He [Bawumia] said he has posed 170 statements and claims that NDC should answer. Since when did statements and claims become questions? Ask him for me. The lies are many,” he said in Twi.
“Although we have said several times that those statement and claims are lies, he [Bawumia] doesn’t understand. I think we have to explain to him so he understands,” he the Vice President added.
According to Mr Amissah-Arthur, who was once the governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Bawumia is lying about having asked the NDC 170 questions, saying, “He’s lying! He hasn’t asked any question.
“He [Bawumia] claimed the living conditions of Ghanaians improved by 400 per cent under the eight-year rule of President Kufuor. He’s lying; he should go back and do his calculation again,” he replied Dr Bawumia.
