Daniel Amartey’s increasing role in the Leicester City midfield would be a plus for Ghana as the Black Stars plan another assault on the 2018 world cup.
Amartey has played at right back, center back and central midfield for Ghana where he is not yet a regular but it is in central midfield that he has been thrust this season for Leicester City as a replacement for N’golo Kante.
His strong emergence in that role and regular game time in both the English Premier League and European Champions League could provide a fresh challenge for Ghana’s established central midfield pair of Mubarak Wakaso and Afriyie Acquah. Ghana assistant coach Maxwell Konadu thinks that can only be a good thing.
“Amartey playing in midfield is a plus for us,” Konadu told 3FM. “When you have a player who can play in various positions like he does, it gives the team positive advantage. The coach will have to tinker the squad to know where to play him.”
Amartey would be part of Ghana’s squad for the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Uganda on October 7th.
