Advertising the capability of the Iphone 5s, Apple Inc. had on its homepage a banner with the inscription “You Are More Powerful Than You Think”, and we couldn’t agree more with this assertion.
The Ghanaian is capable of achieving great things and has to reach inside to unleash that innate strength.
Too often, we as Ghanaian find ourselves restrained by self-doubt, fear of the unknown and ridicule.
We let conformity and passivity prevent us from catalyzing the change we want to see in ourselves and in the world.
The recent iconoclastic initiatives by non-partisan groups like OccupyFlagStaff House, RedFriday and Concerned Ghanaians for Better Governance have reaffirmed the notion that yes, every voice counts.
Though there are several groups that advocate for social change, we at Accra Report choose at this point to focus on the few aforementioned groups because of their resiliency and sense of appreciation of accountability.
Without any formal political backing, visible financial support or coercion, these groups have made their voice heard.
Whether or not they will be capable of attaining all their goals or prompt government response to their cause, they have dared to break out of the shell of passive aggressiveness that characterize most Ghanaians.
We hope that by these actions of the select few, the global perspective of millennials as an entitled generation will continuously be disabused; and that we will serve as a beacon of hope for other generations to come.
