The Volta Association of Washington DC Inc. an association made up of Ewe speaking people from Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Southwest Nigeria held its end of year get together at the spacious Sligo Adventist school gym on Saturday December 10 2016.
This event also doubled as the investiture of the new administration to run the association for another two years.
In his speech to members, the outgoing president, Mr. Chris Nuworsoo, thanked all those who assisted him in his six years in leadership position in the association. He believes with the acquisition of a bus, the association should be challenged to look for a place of its own in the very near future. He charged the new administration to dream and think big in order to achieve set goals. Even though out of office, the president pledged his support when called upon at any time to work for the association.
The president, Dr. Faustina Quist, was sworn into office by Rev. Kennedy Odzafi while Rev. Dr. Peter Agbelie swore in the vice president, Kafui Agboh. The swearing in of the treasurer, Percy Amoah, was done by Pastor Newman Artcher.
In her inaugural address, the president thanked and praised the association for making it possible for women to occupy the high office since she is the second female president following in the foot steps of Dr. Doris Dzameshie the first female president. She acknowledged that the outgoing administration has really raised the bar and it is a challenge that her administration will handle to move the association to a higher level. Her goal is to engage in fundraising activities in order to get a Volta Association owned resource and youth center.
The president promised to raise fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) or more in her first year. She promised to start the fund raising activities from within the Volta Association before venturing out to the outside world.
Some members who dedicated their time to the works of the association were recognized and given plaques for efforts.
The get together was sponsored by Dr. Russell Jaffe, a philanthropist who has in the past contributed funds to help the association in her charity works. The MCs for the occasion were Edwin Agbonyitor, a past president, and Melba Dogbe-Folly, the outgoing vice president.
