Valentine’s Day is typically associated with romantic love, but for staff at Tigo Ghana, it was a day to recognize fellow colleagues for the attributes that make them admirable.
Staff filled out short online forms describing the characteristics of their team mates they most admired. These were then displayed on a ‘Love Wall’ for all to see.
Studies show that employees who feel love at work, perform better because they are more engaged. Higher levels of satisfaction, teamwork and lower absenteeism was seen among employees in such environments. This type of love is based on connection, affection and warmth rather than passion and is essential for building a work environment people enjoy working in.
According to a report by the Harvard Business Review, love in the corporate world can be expressed in three major ways; love for what you do, love for colleagues and love for customers.
In light of this, Tigo continues to focus on building a culture where employees can feel safe to be themselves and really give off their best to their work, their team members and customers.
The activity was also the company’s way of appreciating the hard work and contributions of staff – not just for delivering on targets, but for sharing warm smiles, listening ears and much more with each other.
